I got my first allotment a few years ago. I’d heard of no dig on a visit to Charles’ market garden, and I knew it was the way forward. Armed with a Charles book and a good season weather-wise I did reasonably well in my first year, with much less work than my digging-crazy neighbours! Over the last few winters I’ve done his online courses, and this year I’m already planting out (mid-March). My neighbours are looking at me sideways, but I now know which plants can go in now and how to protect them against the weather. I have a plan for the year to make the most of the space and I’m confident about how it works and why. Last year the plan was disrupted by the arrival of a fantastic puppy, and it really showed me how getting timings wrong makes a big difference! This year my aim is to get much closer to Charles’ dates.
I’m really looking forward to the year, knowing I’ve got the knowledge to get things right. Charles’ courses are easy to learn from, thorough, and packed with information. They give you the benefit of his years of experience. I’m confident about following his instructions to give me good results. I’m excited about the year ahead!
