I stumbled upon Homeacres videos on Youtube this past summer and watch them on a regular basis, always benefitting from their inspiration while gaining wisdom from Charles.
I've been gardening for most of my life, well over 40 years. Here in Southern California we can grow most vegetables year-round.
Vegetable gardening in a densely populated urban area comes with its own challenges. Insect pests can be especially challenging since they can easily move from neighboring vegetation into your garden. We also have flocks of Parrots that may spot your crops and do a lot of damage in a short time.
The primary purpose of my garden is to provide vegetables for a local chapter of Food Not Bombs, we feed those in need weekly on LA's Skid Row. I also share with many of my friends and neighbors when there is abundance.
I am always experimenting with new varieties and timings, and locations in my garden, recently adding Ginger, Chicory, Endive, Wild Rocket, and some others for a winter crop.
