In 2008 I started on a small 50m2 allotment to find out that this was a great way to spend my free time. Of course I dug the whole plot, all my neighbours did. It was hard work (a heavy clay), and in summertime the garden grew a lot of weeds, the soil sticky and after some showers of rain as dense as it was before.
Eight years later (2016), I first found Charles’ website. My garden had grown in the meantime to two 100m2 allotments. After reading and watching the video’s I was convinced that this could be a game changer.
Since there is no more unnecessary use of the spade, great crops, less weed and less concern about water. The gardens suffer less from soaking after heavy rain, the soil level has raised and has a more open structure than on other gardens.
I grow a lot of ‘open air’ tomatoes, blight resistant, we love radicchio, edamame, the melons and aubergines from the greenhouse.
The soil is fed with homemade compost, mushroom compost and it gets some rock dust and seaweed fertilizer.
I’m very grateful for all the lessons I learned from Charles’ books, newsletters and video’s.
