Course Description
In this course, I share the special knowledge and techniques you need for success in all aspects of vegetable gardening, derived from my decades of experience.
The content is based on my ‘Skills for Growing’ book, plus the course has extra lessons on herb growing and using containers. You have access to nearly 60 videos, half of which are exclusive to the course. We have also created a short quiz for each lesson, for your enjoyment and to consolidate learning.
My desire is to save you time, effort and money, through making all of your inputs effective. From seeds and water, to the space in your garden. Three lessons have vital information about spacing.
Based on my highly successful sowing timeline, I have created a harvesting timeline and table. You can use these two together, for easier planning of second plantings to keep space full. You learn how to create planting plans, succeed with succession, reduce rotation and harvest more from small areas.
There are lessons on saving your own seed, propagation, multi-sowing, spacing for all common vegetables, methods of harvesting and how they influence growth, watering (both when and how much), and using covers for warmth as well as pest protection. I also describe successful winter gardening, growing herbs, growing in containers, and perennial vegetables.
The course comprises 18 lessons in 6 modules, illustrated with beautiful, captioned photos from my no dig, organic garden in Somerset, Southwest UK. I finish with suggestions for taking gardening to an even greater level of ease and energy.
Having lifetime access allows you to refer back to any part of the course, at any time. (There are no downloadable pdf’s or worksheets.)
A fantastic resource for anyone wishing to learn new skills, or to improve and tune the skills they already have, in order to grow bigger and healthier harvests from a given space.
Susan Wolves on YouTube: ‘Following your advice has led to a vegetable plot which fills me with joy and pride.’
Feedback on the original Growing Success course, from Suella Postles, March 2021:‘This course has given me the information and understanding to maximize my vegetable growing and storage….absolutely packed with helpful information, videos and photographs. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.’

How the Course Works
Enjoy the lessons at your own pace – there is no rush and I encourage you to take your time.
I have not set a time frame for each lesson because everyone learns at a different speed, and sometimes slow is good. There is a lot of information to absorb, information that empowers.
Below is a brief description of all the modules and lessons. You can dive into any lesson at any time.
The quizzes can be completed in non-sequential order – each one contains approximately five questions. They are automatically graded and easy to reset if an answer is wrong. Use them as a reference tool to reinforce your learning. A certificate on completion of the course can also be sent on request.
One thing I can’t offer is personal support, there are not enough hours in my day for it. You will find a lot of ‘me’ in the course, answering the questions I am commonly asked, and you can contact me via this website.

Sue McCarthy (verified owner) –
I have just finished the Skills for Growing course. I really enjoyed being able to take it at my own – erratic – pace. I have been moving my allotment to no-dig over the last few years and this has been very helpful, consolidating Charles’ YouTube videos. I was very impressed at how recent many of the video clips are.
Charles –
Thanks Sue and I’m happy you found it helpful. I wish you fine harvests this year from nicely spaced plants!
Wojciech Górny –
I was following Charles on YouTube for seven years, as well as on Facebook for a bit shorter time. I have learned plenty from free videos (big thanks for them, keep them coming!) but recently I have decided “to make it official” and I have completed both No Dig and Skills for Growing courses. Honestly, after such a long time of following Charles on YouTube, I did not expect that I will learn so much, especially in the Skills for Growing course.
Lou Luff –
I am really enjoying the Skills for Growing course. I find it very practical, and to the point. I think it is a really great one for busy people.
