Compost thermometer
This handy compost thermometer has a 50cm stainless steel probe so you can push it deep into the heart of your compost heap. The dial displays a temperature reading in °C and is colour coded so you can easily check that things are working as they should.
Generally the higher the heat, the faster your materials will break down, but you don’t want it too hot as it can dry out your pile and kill off the microorganisms doing all the work! Using the dial as a guide, you can keep it working in the optimal range. If it’s too cool, you can add more material (or more water if it’s too dry) to get it off and running again. If it’s too hot, you can turn or aerate the pile to dissipate the heat.
Measurements:
Dial Ø5.2cm
Probe L50cm x 0.5cm
