Roots & Flame with Charles & Gaz Oakley
A day of growing, cooking & connection. Morning session with Charles and Gaz, lunch by Catherine Balaam, afternoon session of cooking demonstration with Gaz.
Charles takes you on a tour of Homeacres garden where he explains his basic non-cultivation methods, around No-Dig and minimal growth of weeds. In addition, he shows some of the energy enhancing methods he employs to grow healthy and abundant vegetables. There is so much to see in the garden at this time of year. The polytunnel and greenhouse are bursting with summer plantings, and many beds outside are recently re-planted after the first harvest have finished. Gaz will be harvesting along the way ending up with a good trug of vegetables for the afternoon session. We also have a look at compost made so far this year.
Lunch is prepared by Catherine Balaam who wrote the recipes in Homeacres’ No Dig Cookbook. Catherine uses fresh produce from the garden, creating dishes that are often simple, and showcase the natural full flavour of the vegetables.
Then join Gaz on a journey from Plant to Plate as he transforms Charles’ produce into stunning meals cooked over fire. Learn how to preserve these flavours for years through the art of fermentation and discover a variety of edible and medicinal plants you can grow to create your very own herbal apothecary at home.
