I use my decades of growing experience to recommend which crops grow successfully together, with the emphasis on how long they grow together, governed by their sowing dates. Plus I explain how to harvest in particular ways, to grow the tastiest and most pest-free crops as space-efficiently as possible.
Grow Together is about more than simply planting two different crops side-by-side: there's succession planting, catch-cropping, cover-cropping, companion planting, planting to aid pollination, and multisowing. The book has invaluable advice on how to succeed with each technique, using the best timings, spacings, and most suitable varieties.
My sowing dates are for Zones 6–9 and are based on southern UK. If your climate is colder, sow approximately 2–4 weeks later until May, and 1–3 weeks earlier from July. For zones of higher numbers, such as 9, 10 and 11, you can adjust the dates as follows: the higher your zone number, the earlier you can sow in spring and the later in summer through autumn. Sow earlier by 1–4 weeks in spring, and later by 1–3 weeks in summer and autumn.
